We are delighted to announce that The MolSSI was named as a finalist for a .ORG Impact Award, which honors the remarkable individuals and organizations working to make the world a better place. This week’s announcement lists the top five entries across nine award categories. Winners in each of the categories (e.g., combatting the coronavirus, battling poverty and hunger, championing equality, promoting education, advancing environmental sustainability, and others) will be named as part of “The Ten Days of .ORG,” starting November 30th. The online experience will culminate with the announcement of the “.ORG of the Year” Award.
Along with four other notable organizations considered for the award in the category of “Combatting Coronavirus,” the MolSSI is being recognized for its COVID-19 Molecular Structure and Therapeutics Hub. This site (representing a collaboration between The MolSSI and BioExcel) provides a community-driven data repository and curation service for molecular structures, models, therapeutics, and simulations that are advancing COVID-19 computational research. In particular, we recognize the contributions of MolSSI Software Scientists, Dr. Levi Naden, Dr. Sam Ellis, and Dr. Andrew Abi-Mansour, and MolSSI Board of Director’s member, Prof. Teresa Head-Gordon (along with many others), for their efforts in launching the Hub.
