2021 MolSSI Community-Led Workshops Focusing on HPC

2021 MolSSI Software Workshops on High Performance Computing

The Molecular Sciences Software Institute (MolSSI) is now accepting proposals for Software Workshops focusing on High Performance Computing (HPC).  The purpose of these workshops is to bring key software developers and users together to identify and discuss the most important questions we face as a community in the high-performance computing domain.  What new hardware technologies are emerging and how can we take full advantage of them?  How do we maximize scientific productivity upon current/near-term computers including more effective utilization of local and national cyberinfrastructure?  How can we make our community codes more portable and still maintain high performance?  How can we accelerate progress towards specific science objectives while also broadening participation?  MolSSI workshops typically run over the course of two to three days, and the MolSSI provides logistical and financial support.  While we hope that these workshops might actually take place as in-person gatherings during Spring 2021, we must assume at this point that the workshops will be conducted virtually.

Deadline: 15 January 2021

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

The MolSSI Software Workshop program is presently limited to proposals from U.S. organizations only. We are prioritizing proposals that include participation by a diverse audience and representatives from academic institutions, industry, national laboratories, and the HPC community. The MolSSI Software Workshops are an equal opportunity program open to all qualified persons without regard to race, gender, religion, age, physical disability or national origin.

MolSSI Software Workshop proposals will be reviewed promptly by the MolSSI Board of Directors using selection criteria based on (1) the relevance of the proposed workshop topic to the Institute’s goals; (2) the breadth of the impact across the molecular sciences; and (3) the strength and diversity of the participant list.

Note that an essential component of any MolSSI workshop is a strong connection to software challenges facing the community.

Proposal Requirements:

A complete MolSSI Software Workshop Proposal must include:

  • A workshop description, including motivation and relevance to the HPC needs of the molecular sciences community (maximum of two pages);
  • A list of potential speakers and participants that is broadly inclusive;
  • Note that while we would normally require budgetary specifics, we are leaving this component somewhat fluid for now due to the pandemic.

Additional Requirements:

Each MolSSI workshop will be expected to provide a follow-up report to the Institute’s leadership describing the presentations, activities, discussions, and outcomes (especially scientific and/or software outcomes) of the meeting.

To receive full consideration for a workshop in Spring 2021, please upload your proposal by January 15, 2021. Stay tuned to molssi.org for more information about the Institute and its many opportunities for the computational molecular sciences community.
