The future of MOPAC as open-source software

Abstract

After 28 years as commercial software, MOPAC returned to the public domain in 2021 as an open-source software project with support from the Molecular Sciences Software Institute. I will review its development path to this point, its ongoing development priorities, and its future development plans. In particular, I will highlight MOPAC’s connection to other software, its evolving interfaces, and the ongoing development of a new website.
