2018 MolSSI Software Workshops
The Molecular Sciences Software Institute (MolSSI) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for its 2018 Software Workshops – a series of community-led events focused on software-related challenges relevant to the broad field of computational molecular sciences, including biomolecular and macromolecular simulation, quantum chemistry, and materials science. MolSSI workshops will typically last two to three days, and all will receive logistical and financial support from the Institute. Workshops may be held at locations convenient to their target audience, or a venue can be provided by the Institute.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
The MolSSI Software Workshop program is presently limited to proposals from U.S. organizations, but we encourage participation by a diverse audience and representative from academic institutions, industry, national laboratories, and the cyberinfrastructure community. The MolSSI Software Workshops are an equal opportunity program open to all qualified persons without regard to race, gender, religion, age, physical disability or national origin.
MolSSI Software Workshop proposals will be reviewed biannually by the MolSSI Board of Directors, the Science and Software Advisory Board, and staff. Selection criteria will be based on (1) the relevance of the proposed workshop topic to the Institute’s goals; (2) the breadth of the impact across the molecular sciences; and (3) the strength and diversity of the participant list.
Proposal Requirements:
A complete MolSSI Software Workshop Proposal must include:
- A workshop description, including motivation and relevance to the computational molecular sciences (maximum of two pages);
- A list of potential speakers and participants that is broadly inclusive;
- A proposed venue and anticipated budget.
Additional Requirements:
Each MolSSI workshop will be expected to provide a follow-up report to the Institute’s leadership describing the presentations, activities, discussions, and outcomes of the meeting. Most workshops – especially those focused on software bottlenecks and challenges – will also prepare one or more “use cases” that outline a specific scientific target and the models, workflows, and algorithms needed to reach it.
